To ensure accurate billing for electricity and natural gas consumption, as well as to deal with faults or emergency incidents, it is important to know which organization is responsible in each case and how to contact it.
Who Is Responsible for Electricity Meter Readings?
The Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE) is responsible for electricity metering at low-voltage connections. DEDDIE records or estimates electricity consumption in accordance with the applicable procedures and forwards the relevant data to your chosen electricity supplier, which then issues the corresponding bill.
DEDDIE is gradually implementing monthly meter readings. If an actual meter reading cannot be obtained, for example because the meter is inaccessible, estimated consumption based on historical data may be used. You may also be able to submit your own meter reading through the available meter-reading service.
You can check the meter readings and reading dates relating to your electricity supply on your electricity bill.
Who Is Responsible for Natural Gas Meter Readings?
The natural gas distribution network operator serving your area is responsible for measuring natural gas consumption. The operator records or provides meter readings and forwards the relevant data to your chosen natural gas supplier, which issues the corresponding bill.
If you have questions about your meter reading or believe that the measurement is incorrect, you can contact the relevant network operator for further information or to request a meter inspection.
Who Should I Contact in Case of a Power Outage or Electricity Network Fault?
For problems affecting the electricity distribution network, such as power outages or faults involving your electricity supply, the responsible organization is DEDDIE.
You can report a fault online through its official website or by telephone:
- Free 24-hour fault reporting hotline: 800 400 4000
- Alternative telephone number: 211 190 0500
- Alternative telephone number: 11500, with charges depending on your telecommunications provider.
You can report a fault online through DEDDIE’s official website: https://www.deddie.gr/el/vlaves-diakopes-leitourgias/dilosi-vlavis/
Who Should I Contact in Case of a Natural Gas Leak or Network Fault?
If you smell gas, suspect a leak, or experience another emergency involving the natural gas distribution network, contact the emergency response centre of the relevant network operator immediately.
In areas served by Enaon EDA, the 24-hour emergency response number is:
- Enaon EDA – 24-hour emergency response: 800 1187 878
- Customer service centre: 11150
In an emergency, use the emergency response number rather than the general customer service line. If there is an immediate danger to people or property, leave the area and contact the appropriate emergency services.
If you suspect a gas leak inside a building, do not switch electrical devices or switches on or off, and do not use naked flames. Leave the area and follow the instructions of the relevant emergency services.
A useful tip from Globy+: Your energy supplier is responsible for your energy contract and billing, while the network operator is responsible for meter readings, network operation, and related technical interventions. Understanding this distinction helps you contact the right organization from the outset and resolve issues more efficiently.
