How Long Does It Take to Switch to a New Energy Provider?

Switching your electricity or natural gas provider for an active supply connection typically takes 1 to 7 business days from the date you sign the Supply Agreement with your new provider, depending on your circumstances and the procedures involved. The process is handled digitally through an automated system, so no further action is generally required from you.

For disconnected electricity or natural gas supplies, as well as inactive natural gas connections, the timeframe may be similar, although this cannot be guaranteed. In certain cases, priority processing may be available, depending on the procedures of the relevant network operator.

If your property has an older-generation meter, a qualified technician from DEDDIE (the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator) or the relevant natural gas distribution network operator (eg EDA) may need to visit the premises to reconnect the meter to the network.

If your property has a modern digital meter with remote reading capabilities, the process may be completed entirely remotely. In such cases, reconnection can often be completed within a few hours during business days and working hours, although it may take up to 48 hours, depending on the operator’s workload and the application’s position in the processing queue.

The exact completion time depends on the procedures and processing times of the network operator for electricity and the relevant natural gas distribution network operator in your area.
