Can I Increase or Decrease the kWh Capacity of My Existing Electricity Supply?

If the electricity requirements of a property call for an increase in power capacity (particularly in commercial premises) or, conversely, a reduction in power capacity (mainly when a property changes use from commercial premises to residential accommodation), the existing supply can be adjusted to meet the required capacity.

Increasing or decreasing the capacity of an existing electricity supply requires proper preparation and the submission of the relevant documents to avoid delays and complications.

Below, you can find the steps and required documentation for completing the process through DEDDIE (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator), the competent authority for this procedure.

A. Documentation for the Technical Study

The following documents are required to prepare the technical study for increasing or decreasing the power capacity:

  • Application for minor works (DEDDIE form).
  • Declaration of the maximum inrush current, where required. In the case of a power capacity reduction, the property owner's (landlord's) consent is required and must be certified through a solemn declaration under Greek Law 1599/1986.

B. Electricity Supply Installation

Before the electricity supply with the increased or reduced capacity can be installed, the following steps are required:

  • Signing a connection agreement with DEDDIE.
  • Payment of the required contribution towards the costs associated with the electricity supply.

C. Connecting the Property to the Electricity Network

To complete the process and connect the property's internal electrical installation to the network, the following document must be submitted:

  • Electrical Installation Certificate (YDE) issued by a licensed electrician, in accordance with the applicable legislation (Laws 4483/1965 and 2302/1995).
